Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola has become the Chairman of the Regional body, the Fisheries Committee for West Central Gulf of Guinea.
His election was one of the highpoints of the three day 16th conference of Ministers of Fisheries Committee for West Central Gulf of Guinea, held November 11th -13th 2025 at Lagos intercontinental hotel, Victoria Is)and.
In his acceptance speech,
Oyetola affirmed Nigeria’s commitment FCWC.
He itemized all that his ministry was established to champion the cause of the Marine and Blue Economy in Nigeria.
He promised to deepen relationship with regional associations, collaborate to ensure sustainable in fisheries management, data sharing, and address sharp priorities.
Furthermore, he promised to implement harmonized policies, strengthen governance and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated,(IUU) fishing in the Gulf of Guinea to secure a prosperous future.
He received the mantle of leadership from the outgoing chairman,Hon. Cyrus Saygbe, director general, National fisheries and aquatculture authority of Liberia.
He will remain Chair FCWC till 2027.
