….New data shows lending, payments and digital tools are closing Nigeria’s $32.2B MSME funding gap

Moniepoint Inc, Africa’s all-in-one financial ecosystem for individuals, businesses, and their customers, has released its inaugural Impact Report, “Creating Financial Happiness.”

The report tracks Moniepoint’s growth from payments infrastructure provider to a full financial ecosystem now serving over 20 million individuals and businesses and processing $250 billion in annual transaction value.

At the center is access to credit. In 2025, Moniepoint disbursed more than $700 million in loans to MSMEs. For 75% of borrowers, it was the first formal business loan their enterprise had ever received.

Data-driven lending unlocks growth

Instead of collateral and paperwork, Moniepoint uses proprietary transaction data to assess cash flow and creditworthiness.
The result: faster approvals and capital for businesses traditionally shut out of formal finance.

Businesses that received credit saw a 36% increase in average transaction value. Enterprises banking with Moniepoint collectively employed more than 8 million people in 2025.

Women-owned businesses lead on repayment
Women make up about one-third of Nigeria’s MSMEs but face outsized barriers to finance. Moniepoint’s data tells a different story: women borrowers had a default rate 2.5 times lower than men.

Acting on that insight, Moniepoint increased lending to women-owned businesses by 300%+ in 2025. Women now account for 36% of its loan portfolio, well above the industry benchmark of 15–25%.
For 62% of surveyed women entrepreneurs, a Moniepoint loan was their first formal business credit.

Payments reaching every corner
Beyond credit, Moniepoint is expanding access through payments.

  • USSD banking: Customers without smartphones or data transacted $170+ million by dialing a code.
  • POS network: Terminals in all 774 LGAs enabled payments for 100 million people in 2025.

The impact is measurable in people’s lives. In user surveys, 83% said their quality of life improved and 85% reported greater confidence in achieving financial goals.

Leadership Quote
“Ten years ago we set out to build financial infrastructure that works for everyone,” said Tosin Eniolorunda, Co-Founder and Group CEO, Moniepoint Inc.
“Today that has become our mission: creating a world where every African can experience financial happiness.
For 3 out of 4 businesses we lent to this year, ours was their first formal loan. When we expanded lending to women, we saw entire communities uplifted. Businesses that accessed credit grew transactions by 36%, and the companies we serve now support 8 million jobs. That is financial happiness in action.”

Expansion and Community Impact
In 2025 Moniepoint expanded beyond Nigeria with the acquisition of Sumac Microfinance Bank in Kenya, and launched Moniebook, a platform combining payments, bookkeeping and inventory for small businesses.

Through partnerships aligned to the UN SDGs, Moniepoint also invested in talent, education and community programs including Women in Tech and DreamDevs. The company supported delivery of subsidized food to 800,000+ people in northern Nigeria.

Recognized by TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies 2025 and the Financial Times’ Africa Fastest-Growing Companies, Moniepoint now employs 3,300+ people across 10 countries.
